Helical Piles, Helical Anchors
Tiebacks & Helical Soil Nails
Helical Pile Systems are an extremely versatile deep foundation system, used in both new construction and retrofit applications to support wall loads and/or pile caps supporting heavy commercial and industrial column loads. Helical piles can be installed with hand-held equipment, mini-excavators, skid steers, backhoes, or trackhoes, so the installation equipment can be sized for the project. Helical piles can also permanently stabilize sinking or settling foundations. The piles are mechanically advanced into the ground to appropriate depths and capacities and steel foundation brackets are connected to the tops of the helical piles and installed against the footing. The weight of the existing structure is then carefully transferred from the unstable soils, through the piles, to competent soil or bedrock.
Helical Anchors (also referred to as tiebacks) in a near-horizontal orientation provide lateral stability to foundation walls and retaining walls with unbalanced earth pressures.
Helical anchors can be installed with hand-held equipment, mini-excavators, skid steers, backhoes, trackhoes, or crane-supported rigs so they are ideally suited for almost any application.
This versatility, along with the ability to immediately load and test the anchors, make helicals a convenient and economical solution for a wide variety of projects.
Soil nailing is a method of earth retention that relies on reinforcing strands or members installed in a grid pattern within a soil mass to create an internally stable gravity wall/retaining system. A helical soil nail typically consists of square shaft lead and extension sections with small diameter (6 to 8 inches) helix plates spaced evenly along the entire shaft length. The helical soil nail is installed by application of torque, similar to the installation of a helical tieback. The helical soil nail is a passive bearing element, which relies on movement of the soil mass and active earth pressures to mobilize the shear strength of the soil around the helix plates. Excavation, soil nail installation, and application of wall facing is completed in steps from the top of the wall downward.
Push Piers / Micropiles
Push Pier Systems are an effective method for stabilizing and/or lifting sinking or settling foundations. Push Pier Systems utilize high-strength round steel tubes and load-transfer brackets to stabilize existing foundations. Foundation brackets are secured against existing footings, and pier sections are driven hydraulically through the foundation brackets and into the soil below, using the combined structural weight and any contributory soil load as resistance. Pier sections are continuously driven until a suitable load-bearing stratum is encountered. At that point, the structure either begins to lift or the target pressure/load is achieved. The weight of the structure is then transferred from the unstable soil to the foundation brackets, through the piers, and to firm load-bearing soil or bedrock.
commercial concrete lifting & leveling
TerraFirma Concrete Leveling utilizes high-strength polymers to fill voids under concrete. A two-part urethane that expands into rigid foam that is used to fill voids, our solution can lift or stabilize concrete. TerraFirma Concrete Leveling is lighter weight and less invasive than other concrete remediation methods, in addition to offering the ability to lift heavier structures. TerraFirma Concrete Leveling can fit the needs for a variety of applications, including heavy use pavements, concrete floor slabs within warehouses, roadway maintenance and repair, bridge approach and general slab settlement. Our solution is ideal to help rocking concrete slabs that can wreak havoc on fork lifts and high traffic zones as well.
Superior Engineering on Permanent
Foundation Repair Systems
TerraFirma installs Supportworks products with pride. Supportworks’ in-house geotechnical and structural engineers develop and test foundation repair products so you can have absolute confidence in our systems’ efficiency and quality. Supportworks engineers are also available to assist in preliminary designs and provide technical support to engineers, architects, building departments, and general contractors.
We focus on finding permanent solutions for foundation settlement and structural damage. We do this with industry-expert engineers, who routinely present technical information and case studies to design professionals across North America. We also work with qualified third-party engineers and consultants to refer to on an as-needed basis.
