Most indoor air quality issues start in dark, wet areas of the house like the basement or crawl space. Mold thrives on this kind of environment and will commonly be accompanied by a nasty smell.

After removing any organic materials (mold) and making sure your waterproofing system is working correctly you should still consider other airborne hazards like dust mites and bacteria. These can also be endangering your health and fortunately can be prevented with the use of a dehumidifier.

We had successfully used Terra Firma about 10 years ago, so when we had a water incursion this year in a different part of the house we naturally turned to them again. To address water coming through a wall in our daylight basement, they installed their Water Guard and Vapor Lock products, plus a sump pump system. The result looks solid and neat. Haven’t yet had a chance to test it in a downpour, but I’m very confident that if there’s an issue, TF will make it right. I know that because some of our rickety plumbing got dislodged during this process and started to leak. TF stepped up and sent 2 high-quality plumbers, and they found every issue and fixed them all. Our house is nearly 100 years old, with crumbly concrete and bowing walls in the basement and lots of "do it yourself" work done on it. We love it. But it is a challenge. What are footing drains?

Footing drains are installed just outside the foundation of your home’s basement. These are thick pipes with holes designed to let water flow inside. A layer of stones is put on top of the drainpipe to prevent soil backfill from blocking the pipe. However, with time, backfill can seep through the stones and clog the pipe. Improperly maintained footing drains can lead to a leaky basement.
